The number of cases in the West New South Wales Local Health District continues to rise at a rapid rate, with 879 new infections in the latest report. However, the number of people hospitalized has declined, with 11 battling the virus in the district in the hospital, while one person is in intensive care. Western NSWLHD has yet to release a local government area breakdown for the number of cases. Across New South Wales, 11 people have died as the announcement recorded more than 38,000 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day. NSW Health figures released Friday morning showed there were 38,625 new infections within 24 hours to 8pm Thursday – an increase from just under 35,000 the day before. The number of deaths from the virus continued to rise, with 11 people losing their lives in the 24-hour period. There are 1,738 people in state hospitals – 134 of those patients are in intensive care units – and 112,725 PCR tests have been done. The number of active cases across NSW stands at 234,066. It comes as information was released on Friday morning that the NSW government was preparing to announce the reintroduction of certain restrictions.
