But immediately after kicking the conversion, Hastings turned around and pointed at a member of the crowd.
The 26-year-old quickly complained to officials on the field before joining his teammates for the restart.
The daily telegraph reports that a fan was escorted out of Suncorp Stadium for making “deeply personal” derogatory comments about Hastings’ family while setting up the shot on goal.
“We still don’t know exactly what was said,” commentator Andrew Voss told Fox League.
“What we can tell you is that a fan was kicked out at halftime, so those around the perpetrator turned him in.”
The incident comes after a physical altercation broke out on the north end of the west stand at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, with about a half-dozen men throwing punches and falling backwards onto chairs.
Video of the brawl quickly circulated on social media, with rugby league fans expressing their disgust at the crowd behavior and lack of security intervention.
speaking to The courier mail over the incident, NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo criticized Queensland rugby league fans and threatened to impose bans.
“There is absolutely no place for violence in our games,” he said.
“In addition to the actions that the authorities may take, we will also prohibit any fan who carries out acts of violence in the stands. It will not be tolerated.
“Magic Round is a celebration of our game, our fans and families. Nearly 150,000 fans will be in attendance this weekend and we will speak to the Stadium, which oversees security, to ensure the proper steps are taken.”
