Ralf Rangnick must be able to deal with the “big egos” in Manchester United’s dressing room if he is to be successful as the club’s interim manager, Roy Hodgson told the Transfer Show.
The former England and Crystal Palace manager also urged United’s board to ‘support’ Rangnick after sources said Sky Sports News that some players are starting to doubt that he is the right person to lead.

Rangnick: Man Utd players ‘at least trying’ to adapt to my style
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said the team are “at least trying” to take his ideas into account amid doubts over his approach among some of the players.
Rangnick had his toughest week yet at Old Trafford after Wolves inflicted their first loss since taking office on Monday – a performance he described as a “relapse” to his players’ old habits.
Sky Sports News was told this week that there were cliques in the locker room, with some of the squad struggling to adjust to Rangnick’s training methods and 4-2-2-2 formation, but the German believes there is an overall improvement – at least defensively – and an attempt to adopt his philosophy.
When asked if the players listen to him and buy into his ideas, he replied: “They are at least trying, I’m sure they are listening.
“We have shown in the last few games against Crystal Palace and Burnley that they try to follow the advice I give them. We conceded fewer goals than before, it’s 0.6 goals per game.
“But yes, it’s always about balance, we have to find the best possible balance between attack and defense. We still have something to do to improve.”
A source told Sky Sports News this week that “they have the Manchester United players who are ready to play, but they don’t have the coach to get the best out of these players.”
The same source also pointed out that Rangnick’s plans were disrupted in December, when the club had to close their Carrington training ground after a Covid outbreak, and that had an effect on performance.
