Leonardo DiCaprio named after a tree

Environmental researchers named Leonardo DiCaprio after a tropical tree recently discovered in the Ibo forest in Cameroon. In turn, the famous Hollywood actor and environmental activist has pledged to work to protect this rainforest.

DiCaprio is known for his interest in climate and environmental issues. And his defense.

Researchers from Kew (west of London) and their partners around the world have given names in 2021 to more than 200 species of plants and fungi.

This four-meter-high tree, with a trunk adorned with large yellow and green flowers, was discovered in the Ibo forest north of Douala (south), the economic capital of Cameroon.
