The LA County Fire Department announced that firefighter Jonathan Flagler died Thursday after fighting a residential structure fire in Rancho Palos Verdes.
A fire call was received at around 2:49 a.m. with LA FD County saying Flagler was seriously injured and taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
I join the Flagler and LACoFD families in mourning the sudden passing of Firefighter Flagler, ”said Acting Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone. “It is always a tragedy to lose one of our own in the line of duty. Firefighter Flagler made the ultimate sacrifice; his bravery and courage will never be forgotten.
Flagler spent 19 years with the Vernon Fire Department before transferring to the LA County Fire Department in October 2020.
“Today’s loss is a reminder that life is fragile,” LAFD Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas said on Thursday.
A procession was held from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center to the coroner’s office, with firefighters saluting along the way.
