AN A powerful explosion has destroyed part of a popular five-star hotel in Havana, Cuba, with smoke and flames billowing from the building.
Police and rescuers arrived at the historic Hotel Saratoga on Paseo del Prado in Old Havana shortly after 11 a.m., where the walls of the multi-story building had been blown away by the blast.
There have been no reports of casualties yet, but several ambulances were seen at the scene. A nearby school has been evacuated.
According to local reports, construction work was underway on the hotel, which has hosted Beyoncé, Madonna and the King of Morocco.
The £200-a-night hotel was described by Telegraph Travel as “Havana’s small high-end hotel”.
