GM launches used vehicle buying platform CarBravo

DETROIT – General Motors this spring will launch CarBravo, a buying platform designed to drive used vehicle sales at GM dealerships, the automaker said on Tuesday.

“CarBravo will provide customers with more choice and access to shop significantly expanded inventories from both the dealership and a national central inventory of GM pre-owned vehicles. It is important to note that program features will also be offered on non-GM used vehicles. ” Steve carlisle, president of GM North America, said in a statement. “CarBravo is designed to give customers the ability to shop the way they want, where they want – online, at the dealership, or both. “

The used vehicle market has grown over the past five years and is less sensitive to market fluctuations than the new vehicle market, Carlisle said. With CarBravo, GM aims to increase the volume of used vehicles as companies such as Carvana and CarMax Inc. absorb the share of used vehicles. The announcement comes about a year after Ford Motor Co. launched a used vehicle platform called Ford Blue Advantage.

The business of used car dealers has become vitally important over the past year as the global shortage of microchips has disrupted the production of new vehicles.

Carvana and other digital used vehicle platforms “gave us the opportunity to learn a lot,” Carlisle told reporters on Tuesday. “CarBravo would be more than competitive.”

Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealers can register immediately, and the mainstream launch is expected to begin this spring, GM said. Cadillac is developing a separate program, Carlisle said.

The platform will list GM and non-GM vehicles from dealerships across the country and non-lease vehicles owned by GM Financial. Today, GM dealerships have approximately 400,000 used cars in their inventory, and GM sells more than 500,000 GM Financial-owned vehicles each year.

Eligible vehicles will come with OnStar and SiriusXM radio testing. GM is hoping that wider access to its in-car features will increase subscriptions, Carlisle said.

CarBravo will be supported by GM’s digital retail platform and will include clear pricing, vehicle history reports, and 360-degree views of the vehicle. Vehicles will be inspected and reconditioned to GM standards.

Each vehicle comes with a warranty. Some buyers also benefit from road service and courtesy transportation.

Customers may request door-to-door test drives and door-to-door delivery, subject to availability at participating dealerships.

Todd Ingersoll, Ingersoll Auto’s main dealer of Danbury, Connecticut, who piloted CarBravo, said the dealers had worked with GM on the platform for the past 18 months.

“I cannot stress enough how important used vehicles are to our dealership’s operations and profitability. At the end of the day, the most successful new car dealers have great used car operations,” he told reporters.

“Collectively, anytime you can pool your inventory and increase the number of organic searches you have, it will naturally bring in more internet leads and generate more business on our channel,” he said. “And that’s ultimately what we’re trying to do: increase activity and keep the cars in our family.”

Ford dealers have said Ford Blue Advantage has increased their used vehicle sales and provided an additional revenue stream as the chip shortage is slowing the production of new vehicles.
