Frank & Harri Patisserie is the kind of bright and airy operation you’d expect from the duo behind the Prahran cafe’s fourth chapter. Sisters Sarah and Jessica Whitfield moved from there and channeled all their energy into this spot, which opened in 2020 with a greater focus on French viennoiseries, elaborate layered cakes and baked delights that rely on Jessica’s background as a pastry chef. .
Naturally, the brunch menu is based on the bakery, with croissants served plain with homemade preserves or filled with Cannings farmhouse ham, cheese and honey-mustard mayonnaise. There are also several prepared egg dishes and a variety of toast that tend to sell out before the end of the day.
This location is also a vehicle for showcasing Jessica’s flair in the cake department, and the signature “Funfetti,” a Victorian sponge cake layered with Swiss vanilla buttercream, homemade raspberry jam, seasonal berries and sprinkles encrusted. It deserves a Hollywood handshake at the restaurant. Great British Bakeoff. All cakes can be reserved 72 hours in advance.
Sitting outside in the sun-kissed corner with a croissant and coffee (the house blend is roasted by Melbourne’s Niccolo) feels quite Parisian. Otherwise, the interior is minimal and airy, but you’ll be instantly drawn to the pastry cabinet lined with chocolate chip crackers, rye and callebaut brownies, and passion fruit melting moments.
*Frank & Harri will be hosting a Mother’s Day Bake Sale from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 7. You can bring your own containers to fill with cakes, donuts, cupcakes and more. Take away only *
