An England international rugby union player has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl at a nightclub.

the According to the Daily Mail, the player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody on Sunday following news of an attack at a nightclub the day before.

A 41-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to commit a sexual offense.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the two men have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday January 9 to report a sexual assault on a woman.

“A woman in her late teens was reportedly sexually assaulted.

“A man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a woman was arrested on suspicion of having administered a substance with intent to commit a sexual offense.

“The two have since been released on bail as investigations continue and a number of investigative leads are followed by detectives.”
