Dubai couple rescue camel trapped in quicksand

A Dubai couple came to the rescue after finding a camel stuck in quicksand on the outskirts of Dubai.

Ian Murphy and Christine Wilson were on their way to Ras Al Khaimah when they noticed a camel struggling in the sand.

“I looked over to the side of the road and saw what appeared to be a camel’s head sticking out of the ground,” said Mr Murphy.

They immediately started trying to get the camel out of its hole and were quickly joined by others, with 15 people in all, all trying to help rescue the camel.

“At first we didn’t know what had happened, but it was obvious that the poor animal was very distressed.

“There were no camel tracks around and it looked like it had been stuck there for some time.”

The camel appeared to be stuck in quicksand and with the tide poised to come in, time was against rescuers.

Fortunately, the group finally managed to free the trapped camel. And the owners were reunited with the camel and were eager to thank the original rescue couple.

“They tried to give us a little goat and two birds,” said Ms. Wilson.

“Obviously we couldn’t accept them but they didn’t want us to leave empty handed, they couldn’t have been happier to see the camel rescued.”
