A dump truck spun out of control and crashed into a Mission Valley Freeway exit ramp Thursday, spilling fuel and forcing traffic lanes to close for hours.
The commercial vehicle crashed on the westbound Interstate 8 elevated exit onto Morena Boulevard around 10:15 a.m. and landed in the San Diego Riverbed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The rescue, down to 50 feet below the road, took about 45 minutes, OnScene.TV reported. Paramedics took the driver to a hospital for treatment for unknown trauma, Public Affairs Officer Jesse Matias said.
OnScene described his injuries as serious.
Authorities closed the exit ramp along with the Morena exit of eastbound I-8 to allow for cleanup and investigation, Matias said. Closures continued through mid-afternoon, CHP said.
