Aidan O’Brien has revealed that Cazoo Derby favorite Luxembourg is a doubt for his bid for the Epsom Classic following an injury setback on Friday morning.
The three-year-old colt took an eye-catching third in last week’s 2000 Guineas, finished solidly in third place and looks likely to appreciate the extra half mile the Derby will bring.
But now he has faced an injury setback after a Friday morning gallop that left his classic credentials with Epsom less than a month away in doubt.
O’Brien told the Racing Post: “Luxembourg was a bit off after his gallop this morning. He was a bit lame on his rear end.
“We’re not sure why at this point, but we wanted everyone to know the Derby is coming up. Hopefully, in a couple of days, we’ll know more and post an update then.”
Following that news, Luxembourg went from 2/1 to 3/1 for Derby glory, while fellow stablemate Changingoftheguard dropped to 5/1, with Godolphin’s Walk Of Stars now as short as 7/1 with Sky. Beth.
