Boca Raton Restaurant Deploys Robot Servers Due to Staff Shortage – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

BOCA RATON, FLA. (WSVN) – The last employee at a restaurant in South Florida is a high-tech employee.

The owner deployed a robot server amid the COVID staff shortage and it was a hit with customers.

Bella is the new employee of the Eat District in Boca Raton.

She’s only been around for a few weeks, but the restaurant owner has said this bot is everyone’s buddy.

“All the reactions have been great. Everyone loved it, ”said restaurant owner Louis Grayson.

“I found the way the robot served food was really cool,” said customer Kai Opena.

“It was really cool to see a robot deliver it efficiently to our table,” said customer Aris Carrington.

It was the same reaction at another of Grayson’s restaurants, The Sea, where two Bellas roam.

Getting them to work is pretty straightforward, they just need some information.

Bella is more than just an attraction.

Grayson said she was the answer to many pandemic issues, like finding people to work here.

“Definitively [with] the labor shortage, it helped us to have an extra helping hand inside the restaurant, ”he said.

It is also efficient and ensures contactless delivery of food.

“With so much going on every day and mental health being such a big concern, it really plays a big role in helping to take that stress out,” Grayson said.

Bella is also stressed out, but only if you push her.

Even so, it never affects their work ethic, so don’t be surprised if your next server has fewer feet and more wheels.

There have been concerns about robots taking jobs, but Grayson said that was not the case.

In fact, he said at each of his restaurants, they hire for every position.
