Anthony Hopkins will play Sigmund Freud

Sony Pictures Classics

Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins will play the great father of psychology, Sigmund Freud, in director Matthew Brown’s “Freud’s Last Session,” which is being sold at the Cannes market.

Set on the eve of World War II with Freud in his later years, it invites “Chronicles of Narnia” author CS Lewis into a debate about the existence of God.

Touching on Freud’s relationship with his lesbian daughter Anna and Lewis’s affair with his best friend’s mother, the story blends past and fantasy that goes far beyond the confines of Freud’s study.

Mark St. Germain wrote the adapted screenplay for his play of the same title. The film will begin shooting in the fourth quarter of this year in London.
