A booster dose of this vaccine is 85% effective against Omicron

Health South Africa has declared a Johnson & Johnson booster dose 85% effective against Omicron.

And in the middle of last month, Discovery, South Africa’s largest medical insurer, said getting two doses of Pfizer’s vaccine could provide up to 70% protection against needing hospital care due of an omicron infection.

The CEO of Discovery Health Ltd. said that the protection offered by the vaccine is offered to different practical groups, as well as those who suffer from chronic diseases.

He added that the Pfizer vaccine is 33% effective against the Omicron mutant, according to a study that included 78,000 test cases for the Corona vaccine conducted from November 15 to December 7 in South Africa.

Researchers at the Africa Health Research Institute in Durban, South Africa, found that Omicron reduced virus-blocking antibodies by 40 times in people who received two doses of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine, compared to the discovered strain in China nearly two years ago.
